Doris Backman Fotheringham

1916 – 2008

MAGNA-Doris Evelyn Bingham Backman Fotheringham passed away on March 26, 2008 at the age of 91.  She was born December 27, 1916 in Brigham City, Utah to John and Ella Bingham, the youngest of 8 children.

Doris married John Peter Backman on January 1, 1935; their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  They had five children, Jack, Sandra, Valerie, Bryan and Debra.  She was preceded in death by Johnny in 1970.

In 1989 Doris married OK Fotheringham.  OK had a son and daughter plus their families that lovingly welcomed her into their hearts and considered her their mother as well.  OK passed away in 1996.

Doris was an active member of the LDS Church and held many callings over the years.  She especially loved music, and was a choir director on the stake and ward levels for many years.  She also enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking for her family.  She worked at Hercules Inc. as a secretary for many years.  Upon her retirement she served as a temple worker in the offices of the Jordan River Temple and also did extraction work for the Family History/Genealogy program.

Doris was loved by many for being a sweet, kind and loving person.  Those that knew her often said that she was “the closest thing to an angel that they’d ever met.”  She was very humble and unassuming, but had a great and noble spirit and stood as an example of unwavering strength and faith.

Doris is survived by 2 sons and 1 daughter, Jack (Susan) Backman, Bryan (Leslie) Backman, and Debbie Jenson; step son and step daughter, Orval (Ila) Fotheringham and VaLoy (Earl) Jeppson.  She also has a combined total of 36 grandchildren, 107 great grandchildren and 56 great-great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husbands; daughters, Sandra Barton and Valerie Rushton; 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Superior Hospice for all their help and support and especially Tammy and Michele for all their loving care and kindness.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2008 at the Magna Stake Center, 3084 S. 8400 W.  Friends and family may call Sunday 6-8 p.m. at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 W. 2700 S., and Monday 10-10:45 a.m. at the church.  Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.  Online condolences: www.peelfuneralhome.com.
