Richard Kendall Harris

“Dick”

 

 

MAGNA-Richard “Dick” Kendall Harris returned home to his Heavenly Father and to Patsy’s loving embrace on July 3, 2011.  He was born September 9, 1931 in Salt Lake City weighing 12 ½ lbs, the son of Richard Merrill and Edna Kendall Harris.

            He began school on his 5th birthday at Emerson Grade School, attended Roosevelt Junior High, and graduated from South High at the age of 16.  He drove the family dump trucks after his father passed away, and also worked construction.  He moved to Blackfoot, ID and lived with Ruth and Mervin Duncan.  He married his sweetheart, Patsy in Blackfoot June 23, 1950; their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They lived there for 6 years working for the Arco Atomic Plant N.R.T.S.  They moved to Magna where he worked for Kennecott Copper until retiring in 1985.

            Dick and Pat were blessed with 5 children, 18 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.  They were very active in the Lake Ridge 1st Ward and Oquirrh Stake.  Dick was in the Elders Quorum Presidency, and served 5 years in the Bishopric.  He helped build 5 LDS Chapels, and spent many hours on the Oquirrh Stake farm and cattle project.  He was half owner of Lake Ridge Livestock with his special nephew, Keithie Harris Winn for 30 years.  Along with Pat they were guides at the Jordan River Temple for 3 years, and spent 23 years in Quartzsite, Arizona as snowbirds.

            Dick is survived by his children, Richard K. Harris Jr., Pamela (Roger) Taylor, Mark E. (Wendy) Harris, Annette (Patrick) Dougherty, and Joy (Bob) Poulsen; sister, Elizabeth (Keith) Winn; brother-in-law, Mervin Duncan; and many family members and friends.

            He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Ann Markham Harris; grandson, Jared Ryan Harris; and sister, Ruth Duncan.

            Dick will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

            Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Lake Ridge Ward, 3151 S. 7700 W.  Friends and family may call Friday 6-8 p.m. at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 W. 2700 S., and Saturday 10-10:45 a.m. at the church.  Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.  Online condolences: www.peelfuneralhome.com
