Sione Foueti Tupouniua
1909 - 2011
Sione Foueti Tupouniua, a longtime Siasi 'o Tonga minister, joined his wife,
Lavinia, in heaven on March 25, 2011, at age 102. Foueti was born in 1909 in
Talafo’ou, Tongatapu, Tonga, to Mele Pa'ufo'ou 'Ahotalafolau and Fine
Valahuluhulu 'I 'Olotele. He married Lavinia Anau Tuputupu Talumi in 1932 in
Tonga. She died in 1998. Foueti raised 11 children: Toakase (Sione) Takapu,
Siosefa (Lolohea), Fatafehi (Ofeina), Kasa (Hale) Siale, Sione Motuhi Fonua
(Manu), Sinamoni, Tonga (Siosiua) Taunaholo, Talita (Liu) Valele, Lolohea
(Taufa) Tupou, Mele (Leroy) Ika, and Hale (Veiongo). His legacy lives on in 47
grandchildren, 88 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Foueti
was preceded in death by his wife, son Siosefa, and grandson Sione Tupouniua. In
the final years of his long life, Foueti was lovingly cared for by his bodyguard
Sione Lamipeti, treasurer Vilipusiaki, secretary Mele Ma'ule'o, personal
assistant Amelia and butler Siosifa Tupouniua. Foueti's family sends special
thanks to Tamara and Joy of the Love Healthcare hospice.
Funeral Services will be held 8am-12noon, April 6, 2011 at the The Church of
Tonga, 700 South 532 East, Salt Lake City. Visitation will be 7pm-12am, April 5,
2011 at the church. Interment: Redwood
