James W. Gober
James “Woody” Gober passed away on June 8, 2019, at home, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous fight with esophageal cancer. Woody was born on the 19th of February, 1950 in Beaumont, Texas to James Harvey Gober and Wilda George Gober, both who have preceded him in death.
Woody married Velma Medina Gober on May 17th 1975 in Reno, NV. Together, they have three children Shawn Gober (Toni Vallejos), Sandra (Michael) Romero, and Melissa Gober (Wade Huntley) along with twelve grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, Anthony and Nicholas Sickler, James, Hope and Faith Gober, children of Shawn and Toni, Kelsey, Kaleigh, Kylee, Kloie Romero, and Dakota Sanches, children of Sandra and Mike, Benjamin and Abigail Huntly, children of Melissa and Wade; and great granddaughter, Kiera, daughter of Nicholas and many nephews and nieces.
In addition to their three children, Woody took in and loved many young people who touched his life, Vanessa (Allen) Coleman, Jennifer (Jacobs) Taylor, Kevin Delgado, Stevie, Riley, & Brandon Boyce are just a few of those who he looked upon as his own.
Woody was preceded in death by his sister, Danette (Gober) Brace, brother-in-law, Herbert Medina and is survived by siblings, Dana(Frank) Bankhead, Tim (Jennifer)Gober, and Kim Fornelius, James (Caroline) Medina, Anne Medina Chavez. Along with his proclaimed brothers, Reggie Heath, Darren Debeauvais, and Dallas Harrell.
In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to Huntsman Cancer Foundation, restricted to esophageal cancer research in James's Memory.
We are forever grateful to Dr. Ignacio Garrido-Laguna, his team, Huntsman infusion department and the entire staff. We would also like to extend out gratitude to the staff at Applegate Home Heath, especially Alicia, Marissa, Breann, and Terral.
Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 South Camp Williams Rd. (Redwood Rd.)
