Andrew Nephi Carter

Andrew Nephi Carter, 49, of West Valley City, Utah, passed away unexpectedly on February 24, 2026. He was born on September 6, 1976, in Provo, Utah. Andrew lived a full and hardworking life defined by dedication to his family, loyalty to his friends, and a genuine curiosity about the world around him.

Andrew left high school early to begin working, eager to learn through experience and lend a helping hand wherever it was needed. He spent time in Oregon working alongside his uncles and cousins as a roofer, a job that taught him perseverance and craftsmanship. On March 24, 1999, Andrew married Malissa Marie Woods, and together they welcomed three children who became the pride of his life. Determined to serve his country, Andrew later attended Chemeketa Community College to qualify for enlistment in the United States Marine Corps. He served four years, including a deployment to Iraq, an experience that shaped much of his compassion and concern for fellow veterans. He was often found talking to any veteran and when at the VA hospital spending time with them.

After his military service, Andrew continued to work hard to support his family through a variety of demanding jobs, including in the oil fields, obtaining his CDL to work as a truck driver, and in construction. He was skilled in many trades and was always quick to offer help on any project. Those who knew Andrew will remember his sharp intelligence, mischievous humor, and generous spirit. He loved collecting guns and knives, and he took pride in his knowledge of history and craftsmanship. A passionate recycler, he enjoyed finding and redeeming scrap metal, seeing value where others did not.

Andrew was an avid reader who explored everything from history and nonfiction to imaginative stories. He cared deeply about veterans’ issues and often advocated for better support and benefits for those who served.

He is survived by his parents Richard Kerry Carter and Melissa Ethington; his brothers, Adam, Aaron, and Ammon Carter; his children, Dominic, Aidan, and Miriam Carter. He is also survived by step brother and sisters, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who loved him.

Funeral services will be held on March 13, 2026, in the chapel at Peel Funeral Home in Magna at 10 am, followed by burial with military honors in the Veterans Cemetery at Camp Williams, south of Bluffdale on Redwood Road. You may greet the family before the funeral at 9:30 am but it will be a closed casket without viewing.

Andrew worked hard and passed away much too young. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.

Friends and relatives are invited to join the family in celebrating Andrew's life by wearing jeans and plaid shirts to the funeral
