In the early morning hours of March 4, 2026, after more than 96 years on this earth, Blaine Norman Bliss silently and peacefully passed through the veil for a joyous reunion with Patricia, his eternal companion of 69 years, his three sons, Brent, Michael, and Steven, granddaughter Angela, and many other family members and friends he dearly missed.
Blaine was born in Payson, Utah, to loving parents Stanley Norman and Ada Margaret Heath Bliss on August 10, 1929. His life wasn’t an easy one. As a child of the Great Depression, Blaine and his brothers learned the importance of hard work, discipline, frugality, and planning carefully for the future. Although there was little else during this time, he was grateful for the deep family connection and that his family had everything they needed to sustain them during these trying times.
At age 9, his mother, Ada, passed away, forcing Blaine to grow up quickly. In 1938, Blaine’s father, Stanley, married Ruth Tervort. Blaine fondly cared for Stanley and Ruth throughout their lives, especially in their later years.
Blaine met his eternal companion, Patricia Dawn Sheppeard, while she was visiting her aunt in Tooele, Utah. They were married on April 8, 1951, in Elko, Nevada. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the St. George, Utah LDS Temple on January 17, 1953. Together they built a beautiful life, nurturing 5 rambunctious boys: Brent Norman, Craig Alan, Michael Wayne, Steven Dale, and Jeffrey Scott, building a legacy of love, honesty, faith, and family. Blaine’s commitment to his family was always at the forefront of making sure they were well cared for.
The family’s early years in California were especially meaningful. Friendships were formed and became lifelong treasures to Blaine and Patricia. They later moved to Mapleton, Utah, as their family grew. His family was a constant source of pride and joy, and he was so proud of their accomplishments and would brag about them any chance he could. After retirement, Blaine and Patrica enjoyed road trips in their motor home and traveled throughout the United States sharing time with friends along the way. When Patricia’s health declined, he affectionately and lovingly cared for her until her passing on July 24, 2020.
Blaine was a faithful High Priest member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings over the years. He was deeply committed to his faith and had a profound love for the Savior. He lived a life grounded in faith, learning, and service, finding comfort and strength in his relationship with his Heavenly Father. His unwavering faith in his Heavenly Father is the foundation upon which he built his life. His love for his family was deeply intertwined with his faith. Dad enjoyed church history and biographies of early and current church leaders. He embraced tracing his pioneer ancestry and would study book after book of his family’s genealogy. Through his example, he taught the gospel of Jesus Christ to his children and grandchildren, encouraging them to live purposefully and follow the Savior’s teachings.
Blaine was a forever loyal BYU sports fan and could spend hours watching all things BYU Athletics. He found gardening relaxing, and his yard was always tidy and beautiful. He was known for his dry sense of humor, quick wit, and sharp mind. Blaine freely gave advice, whether you wanted it or not. He loved to joke and would invent ways to make people laugh. He was a self-taught, skilled craftsman who could build or fix anything. He was a man who found great joy in serving others, whether in his community, church, or family. His service was always quiet and selfless, motivated by a deep desire to follow the example of the Savior.
Blaine’s life will affectionately be remembered as a man of selfless service, unwavering faith, love, kindness, compassion and generosity. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the family he cherished. He was truly a man of integrity and inspiration, leaving an indelible mark on all who were blessed to know him.
We love you dad, and we miss you.
Blaine is survived by two sons, Craig (Janet), Jeff (Renae), daughters-in-law, Cindy, Barbara, and Dawn, 25 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, his sister Diane Jolley, and sister-in-law Sandra.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia, three sons, Brent, Michael and Steven, granddaughter Angela, and his brothers Reid, Robert, and Bob.
The family would like to thank the staff at the BeeHive Home of South Jordan and hospice nurse Katrina for their amazing, respectful care of Dad during his final few months.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 9, at the LDS church, 970 N 400 E in Mapleton, Utah. There will be a viewing from 10:00-10:45, followed by the funeral at 11:00. Burial will be at 1:00 in the Payson City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Dad would be honored if you would consider donating to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary fund or Humanitarian fund.
