Bryan B. Backman

November 15, 1944 — October 6, 2022

Emblem

Bryan Bingham Backman "Big B" was born November 15, 1944 in Salt Lake City Utah to John Peter Backman III and Doris Bingham Backman. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 6, 2022.

Big B grew up in Magna Utah.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother, 2 sisters, and his son-in-law.

He is survived by his sweetheart, Leslie; sister, Debbie (Rob); children, Hollie, Jennie (Jason), Jared (Angie), and Alan. He has 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In his youth he was an advocate and protector for those who were bullied. He loved playing sports and played center for the football team. He developed a love and skill for auto mechanics and loved his 1950 chevy, known as Big B’s Playpen, and would often drag State Street (and never lost his “pink slip”).

He married his High School sweetheart in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1966. They spent 57 years serving and loving each other joyously.

He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to the Central Atlantic States. He served various callings throughout his life including Blazer leader, High Councilor, and Bishop. Those who he served saw him as a gentle giant with a big heart.

He served in the Army Reserve before starting his career. He worked hard and provided for his family working for Kennecott until he went back to school to earn a degree as a Diesel mechanic. He retired after working many years for the RailRoad.

His real love in life was working with his hands building and creating with wood. He built toys for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved camping and fishing with his family and hunting with his brother. He loved the mountains.

We would like to acknowledge the wonderful care and service we received from Hospice, especially Johnson, Shelly, and Mark. We would also like to thank the Peel Funeral Home and Moapa Valley Mortuary for their prompt and kind service.

A viewing  will be held at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 West Magna Main St. (2700 South) Magna Utah 84044 Friday October 14 from 6-8pm. A short viewing will be held from 11-11:45am before the 12:00pm funeral on Saturday, October 15. This will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 3100 South 8400 West.

We love you Big B!! Until we meet again.
