Carmen Mae Daddow

June 4, 1979 — September 7, 2023

Carmen Daddow, 44, died tragically from an auto-pedestrian accident in South Salt Lake, Utah on Thursday September 7, 2023 while chronically homeless. Carmen was born on June 4, 1979 in Coeur D'alene, Idaho to Terry and Cindy Daddow. At the age of 3 she was also the victim of a hit and run accident, leaving her with traumatic brain injury and lifelong debilitating challenges.

Carmen entered the Utah foster care system in 1981 where she spent the majority of her childhood until she aged out at 18. She graduated Hunter High School in 1997 and studied 3 years at SLCC. She worked at Dairy Queen and then the University of Utah as a janitor for a number of years. She enjoyed having pets. Her favorite instrument was the piano. Her favorite holiday was Christmas.

Her greatest joy in life was that of her autistic son. She went to great lengths to care for him. She had no drivers license, so she would push him home from the store in a shopping cart full of groceries. In about 2017 she would come down with severe mental illness and her son would be placed into foster care.

From age 18, she had 3 brief stints of homelessness prior to becoming chronically homeless in March of 2018, where she endured  cold winters sleeping rough outside in Salt Lake without even a tent until her passing.

She is survived by her father, Terry; son, Dorian Daddow; brothers, Jeremy Daddow and Travis Daddow; grandfather, Raymond (Edith) Beeman; step grandfather, Buster Edwards; adoptive paternal aunt, Tina (Don) Gourley; 2 half sisters, Becky and Carrie.

Preceded in death by her mother, Cindy; maternal grandmother, Elsie Edwards; aunt, Janet Kingrey; paternal grandparents, Orlo and Virginia Arbuckle; adoptive paternal grandparents, Wilmuth and Bernice Daddow; adoptive paternal aunt, Tulaire Foreman; foster parents, Wally and LuElla Powell.

Special thanks and recognition goes to the VOA Homeless Outreach Team for their support efforts, to VBH for their mental health treatment programs and support, to ordinary bystanders that provided their support, to her brother, Travis for the many countless hours and dedication in providing help and support, to all the donors that helped make her funeral service possible.
