Dan J. Howard

February 14, 1935 — March 6, 2023

Dan J. Howard

Dad passed away on March 6th, 2023. He was 88 years young at the time. He died in Magna, Utah where he lived and raised his family.

Dad was born and raised in Magna, UT. His mom Mary J. Howard, and dad Leroy Hamilton Howard were very happy to welcome their youngest child and second son. Grandma always did say he stole Valentine's day. She also said he was the best thing she ever got on Valentine's day. He was born on Valentine's day 1935.

He attended Webster elementary school and Brockbank junior high - He was the first class to attend there. He graduated from Cyprus high school.

He met the love of his life at the roller-skating rink. Grace and Dan hit it off quickly and got married young. They had three kids Larry, Kathy, and James.

Dan served in the Army with top-secret clearance during the Korean war. He was in the United States Army Signal Corps. This allowed Dan and Grace to move back east for a while and see the country. He served all his time stateside. When the war was over and he was released, they headed back to Utah.

He worked at Kennecott his whole life. He started by driving a truck, then became an electrician, and eventually moved to systems control. For systems control, he had to go back to school at an older age. For him, it was worth it to get the new job. He had many friends on the job.

Dad loved horseback riding, hunting, and fishing. Anything he could do in the great outdoors. All of these he would do whenever he got the chance.

Later in life, Dan took up golf. He had a regular four-some for years. Like most things in life, it did not last forever. He was preceded in death by his golfing buddies.

Dad loved his family the most. For years he helped his father and mother. He helped his mother for many many years and would always take Sunday dinner over. He never complained when helping others. It did not matter if it was mowing the lawn, shoveling snow, or helping someone on the farm. He was always there to lend a helping hand. He never asked anything in return. He did all this in his own humble way.

He is preceded in death by Leroy (Father) and Mary (Mother), Roy (Brother), Beth (Sister), and many more.

The most challenging loss was Grace his wife. So, I am sure he is really busy right now.

Dan is survived by his sister Jane Toone. Sorry dad, I know you really wanted to be the last one standing.

His children: Larry Howard(son) and his wife Maryanne, Kathy Howard (daughter), James Howard (son), and his wife Leilani.

He has six grandchildren. Jacob, Nattalee, Elizabeth, Michelle, Neo, and Ace.

He has three Great Grandchildren Jocelynn, Kindric, and Bridger.
