Dennis Allen Dea

Dennis Allen Dea, 81, passed away after a long hard-fought battle with cancer. He died at his home in Magna, Utah, on July 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Dennis was born on August 17, 1944, to Robert (Bob) and LaVon Dea. He graduated from Cyprus High School in 1962 and remained a proud lifelong resident of Magna. A devoted supporter of Cyprus High School athletics, he passionately cheered on the Pirates and took great pride in the achievements of his community and alma mater. He married the love of his life, Kathleen (Kathy) Nelson, on September 6, 1963, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together they built a loving home and shared more than 62 years of marriage, family, treasured trips, and memories. 

Dennis spent most of his career as an electrician for Kennecott Copper and was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) for over sixty years. He was respected for his strong work ethic, dedication, and commitment to providing for his family.

Known for his positive outlook and terrific sense of humor - his stories, and telling them, could rival any movie plot. He was kindhearted, accepting and loving to all he met. He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Above all else, Dennis loved his family and friends. He found great joy in spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and wild shenanigans with lifelong friends. He was an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed both playing and watching sports throughout his life. He especially loved basketball, baseball, football, and golf. Dennis coached numerous Little League teams, played softball, faithfully supported the Utah Utes in every sport, and rarely missed a Utah Jazz game.

Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy Dea; his children, Trent Allen Dea (Bonnie Hennefer-Dea), Jeffrey Allen Dea, and Michael Allen Dea; his daughter, Stephanie Ulibarri (Tony Ulibarri); along with grandchildren: Siera Dea, Halle Dea, Samie Dea, and great grandchildren, Layla and Kashus; and countless friends who will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and LaVon Dea, his brothers, Bob (Ida) Dea, and twin brothers Jay and Kay (Donna) Dea.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers and medical professionals who provided Dennis with exceptional care and kindness throughout his illness. Special thanks are extended to the teams at the Cancer Center at Intermountain Medical Center and the staff at START clinical trials. Extra appreciation to Drs. Warner, Cannon, McKeen, Adrienne Terry, and all the medical staff whose compassion and dedication meant so much to Dennis and his family.

A viewing will be held Thursday, July 23, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Peel Mortuary (8525 W. Magna Main St, Magna). On July 24, 2026, funeral services will commence at 1:30 p.m. at 8181 W Breeze Dr, (W 3320 S), Magna, UT 84044, Spencer 3rd Ward Chapel. A short viewing will be held prior to the funeral service from 12:30 – 1:15. Interment will follow the services at 3 p.m. at Valley View Cemetery (4335 W 4100 S, West Valley City, UT 84120).

Dennis will be remembered for his loyalty, generosity, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His example of hard work, service, and devotion leaves a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.

In celebration of his life, enjoy a vanilla ice cream cone with your loved ones and enjoy the simple pleasures that brought him happiness.
