MAGNA- Our beloved dad, papa, uncle, brother, and friend, Dennis Ross Montague Sr. passed away on September 8, 2023 after a 23-year courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on January 3, 1947 in Salt Lake City, UT to Erma and Ross Montague. He had seven sisters and often referred to himself as the only rose amongst all those thorns. He graduated from Cyprus High School and later served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany for two years. He worked his entire career at Kennecott and retired after 35 years of service.
He enjoyed fishing at Strawberry Reservoir and hanging out on the dock with his fishing buddies drinking “breakfast wine”. Dennis was often referred to as the Mayor of Magna. Little happened around town that he didn’t know about and it coined the phrase “telephone, telegraph, tell Montague and everyone will know.” He was famous for his daily drive-bys of the town he loved. Multiple times a day, he traveled his usual route up to Pleasant Green Cemetery down Magna Main Street, and past the Copper Golf Club where he spent many days golfing. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball with the Magna Millmen and was inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame in 2022. Dennis was known for his gregarious personality and quick wit. We could write a book of his famous one-liners that always kept us laughing. When he was around you could count on deep belly laughs and good times and always finished a night out by pulling a “Montague” and slipping out of many parties without a word to anyone. Our days will not be as bright without Dennis in them. Cheers to the man, the myth, the legend.
He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Jo Montague (Robert), Brittany Montague (Mick); grandchildren, Chase, Dallon, Breann, Shea, Kira, Gavin, and Reese; four great-grandchildren, Benson, Jayden, Lynnix, and Addilynn; sisters, Nancy (Ronnie) Mark, Paula (Don) Peterson, Holly (Robert) Reilly, Bonnie Cannon, Jolene (Bob) Higgins, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Erma Montague; son, Dennis Jr.; daughter, Stacey Brennan; sisters, Sandra Simmons and Pat Pietramali.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Friday, September 15, 2023 at the Peel Funeral Home, 8525 W. 2700 S., where friends and family may call both Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Friday 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Interment: Pleasant Green Cemetery.
Brittany would like to give a special thanks to her aunts and cousin, Cheri Reilly for all the help, love, and support and to CNS Hospice for the great care they gave Dennis.
