DeOrr M Sorensen

Our wonderful father, grandfather, and great grandfather, DeOrr M Sorensen, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on June 20, 2011, at the home of his daughter, Kathy, in West Valley City, Utah, of causes incident to age. He and his twin brother, LaMar, were born June 15, 1916, at Rexburg, Idaho, to Christian S. and Gertrude McDonald Sorensen. He married his beloved wife, Verna Davies, of Lakepoint, Utah, on March 8, 1937, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Dad was a faithful member of the LDS church and served in many callings. He was passionate about his family, church, fishing, playing his guitar, joke-telling and an enthusiastic story teller. Dad liked to kid that he and his twin brother were in the Guinness Book of Records, for the longest pregnancy ever recorded, all because they were both so dang polite each of them insisted "you go first!" He always had a joke to tell anyone who would listen.

Dad worked during WWII at the Hanford Atomic Plant in Washington State, and spent many years afterward working for the Unified School District in Berkley area in California. The family then returned to Utah, and he eventually retired from Beehive Clothing Mills, though he continued to use his carpentry skills for years afterwards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 9 siblings, wife of 57 years, Verna, second wife, Alice, son, Barry D. (Yoneko) Sorensen, daughters, LaNae (Jack) Taylor, Marla Keith, Kathleen (Henry) Napier, 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, brother, LaMar Sorensen.

Although we will miss our Dad, we know that he is overjoyed to be reunited with his beloved Verna. A family graveside service will be held 11 am, Monday, June 27, 2011 at the Lakepoint Cemetery, Lakepoint, Utah.

Special thanks are extended from our family to the caregivers from Harmony Home Health Hospice for their kind and sensitive care, especially his nurse, Ronda and aides Ivan and Fabrizo. Your tender mercies eased our burdens immeasurably.
