1922 - 2010

Donald Hardy Husband, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on October 16, 2010.  Don was born to Roderick Increase and Mabel Zina Hardy Husband in Magna on June 13, 1922.  He was the last surviving family member of two brothers and four sisters.

Don was a Cyprus High School graduate excelling in basketball and football.  His competitive nature and athletic ability was evident throughout his entire life, especially when it came to the game of golf.   He was also a passionate Jazz fan.

Don was married to Phyllis Elaine Harman on September 10, 1946, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.  After Elaine's death, he married VeNae Duckworth in August, 1999.  As part of the Duckworth family he was warmly accepted and loved by children, grandchildren and great-grand children.

Don retired after 44 years of dedicated service to Kennecott Copper Corp. as Electrical Foreman.  He served as a home teacher for many years in the Spencer 1st. Ward.  He was a proud U.S. Naval Veteran of World War II serving as Crew Captain of over one-hundred confirmed PBY plane rescue missions in the South Pacific.

He is survived by his wife, VeNae; daughter, Karen (George) DeVries; son, Ronald (Laura) Husband; six grandchildren and three great-grand children; stepchildren, Rick (Sherri), Ryan (Diane), and Cory (Elva) Duckworth, Cherry (Jeff) Collins, and Shelby (Shayne) Terry.

He is preceded in death by his wife Phyllis Elaine, son, Donald Chad and dog, Sass.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 22, 2010 in the Magna Central Stake Center, 8181 W. 3320 S.  Friends and family may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 W. 2700 S., Magna, and Friday 10-10:45 a.m. at the church.  Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.  Online condolences: www.peelfuneralhome.com
