Doug Petersen

December 5, 1932 — January 11, 2023

Emblem

Our beloved son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend passed away on January 11, 2023.

Doug was born in Salt Lake City on December 5th, 1932 to Parley Knute and Anna Weiss Petersen.  He grew up in Magna, UT with his parents and two brothers, Kenneth (deceased) and Gary.

After graduating from Cyprus High School, he married Jackie Nordquist.  He then served honorably in the US Army during the Korean conflict.  After his service, they had four beautiful daughters; Jana Jones, Calleen (Greg) Shiflett, Tammy (David) Pearce, and Penny (Randy) Backman. Doug and Jackie later divorced but remained friends throughout their lives.

He worked at Kennecott Utah Copper and retired after 30 + years of service.  He enjoyed building the family cabin with Jackie’s family during a Kennecott strike in the summer of 1964. He also enjoyed being a snow bird in Yuma, camping and fishing at Deer Creek Reservoir, and sharing good times with his best friends at Le Rendezvous Lounge watching sports.

Doug is survived by his daughters, brother, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother, brother-in-law, great grandson and many more friends and loved ones.

The family would like to thank Dr. Cindi Leech at the VA Hospital for the wonderful, loving care she gave our Dad.  We would also like to thank Steve from Hospice for the special care he gave while he was in the Holladay Healthcare Center, where the staff was very helpful as well.

To honor his wishes, we will have a Graveside service at the Valley View Memorial Park on Thursday, January 19th at 2:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, please buy a meal for a veteran or donate to the Veterans Hospital.
