Gordon Robinson Lyman, affectionately known as "Gordy," passed away on June 26, 2026, in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the age of 88.
Gordy was born on November 29, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Donald Gowans Lyman and Maurine Lyman. One of ten children, he grew up with a strong appreciation for family, hard work, and the value of helping others—qualities that remained with him throughout his life.
Gordy dedicated 35 years of service to the State of Utah Surplus Property, where he earned the respect of his coworkers through his strong work ethic and dependable nature.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Tamra June Roberg Lyman; his son, Brock Lyman; and his grandson, Brandon Ingersoll.
He is survived by his children, Gordon Lyman, LeAnne Ingersoll, and Stephani (Dax) Whetsel; and by his cherished grandchildren, Casey Lyman and Zackary Lyman.
Gordy found his greatest joy spending time with family and friends. He loved camping and boating, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. He was happiest with a wrench in his hand, tinkering on cars and motorcycles, always finding a way to keep them running. One of his favorite pastimes was kicking the ol' 1974 Harley-Davidson Sportster to life—or any one of the many motorcycles he owned over the years, including several Triumphs—and taking a ride through Utah's beautiful canyons, enjoying the freedom of the open road. When he wasn't on a motorcycle, you could often find Gordy cruising the Jordan River Parkway Trail on his bicycle, wearing his signature Levi's and cowboy boots, proving that he always did things his own way.
Those who knew Gordy will remember not only his hardworking spirit and mechanical talent, but also his unforgettable sense of humor. He was the life of the party, always ready with a joke, a smile, or a story that could make everyone around him laugh. His warmth, quick wit, and ability to bring people together made him someone people naturally gravitated toward.
Gordy's legacy lives on in the memories he created, the lessons he shared, the laughter he inspired, and the family who loved him so dearly. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Gordy's life on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Our cousin, Angela, and her husband, Tyler Ashby, have graciously opened their beautiful home for this gathering. The celebration will be held at 15017 S. 2700 W., Bluffdale, UT.
From 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., those who wish are invited to raise an adult beverage in Gordy's honor. Please join us in sharing stories, laughter, and a toast to a life well lived—just the way Gordy would have liked it.
