Jack Robert (Bert)York

Jack “Papaw” Bert York age 64 of Counce, Tennessee was unexpectedly hospitalized and passed away on August 5th, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones. Born on October 15, 1959, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and raised in Magna, Utah to Georgia Flandro York and the late Jack R York. Bert attended Cyprus High School Class of 1978 and Salt Lake Community College. Bert loved school and excelled in learning.

Bert didn’t know any strangers just a multitude of friends. Bert loved sports and played little league baseball, enjoyed trap shooting, and bowling leagues. He hit his high game of 290. He was a member of the Magna Mt. Riders Club for many years and Oakers High School Rodeo Club and the Cyprus Rodeo Club as a team roper and calf roper. Bert was an avid hunter including pheasant, duck, elk, and deer, and was always happy when in the mountains. He loved spending time in South Fork Canyon near Oakley with many fun memories of hunts, snowmobiling, camping with family and friends, and up Beaver Springs association where he built a cabin in 1992. Bert reveled in all the gatherings, reunions, barebeque’s, birthday parties and just being with his loved ones. Family vacations were also high on the list of fun including a 1976 Calgary Stampede trip, a bear hunt in Montana, and fishing trips to Alaska. Bert loved his purple Harley Davidson and going to the beach. Bert and Debra, his beloved wife spent their most recent trip to the Virgin Islands for their 21st Anniversary. Bert will be missed by all who loved him.

 Survived by his wife Debra Tomlinson York, they were married March 3, 2003, and spent the last 21 years together. He is also survived by his mother Georgia York, Sister HannahGay Hardy (John), Nieces Heather McCrone, and Amanda Fontenot (Blake), great nephews Bennett and Mason Fontenot, Step-son Jason Tomlinson, granddaughters Taylor Poindexter, Payton, and Jaycee Tomlinson, great-granddaughter Lila Drew Hester, Sister-in-law Delores Crump and Brother-in-law Don Luttrell, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. 

Celebration of life will be held October 14, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Webster Center in Magna, UT. Webster Center 8952 W Magna Main Street, Magna, UT 84044
