James H. Gourley Jr.
1934 ~ 2021
James Herbert Gourley Jr. died peacefully December 16, 2021. Jim was born 87 years ago on August 27, 1934 to James Herbert “Bert” and Alice Gardner Gourley.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was a lifelong resident of Magna, UT. Jim Graduated from Cyprus High School, worked for Kennecott Copper Corp. as a welder and served in the US Army at Fort Lewis in Washington during the Korean war.
Jim loved his family and after his dad died in 1975 his devotion and care of his mother allowed her to remain at home, living independently until her death in 2007. Jim was happiest when surrounded by the small children listening to his stories about his adventures (many of which included them) hunting, fishing, and travels. He loved to grow his white beard long and put on a Santa hat and be Santa to them.
Jim is survived by his siblings, Mary (Bill) Linton, Suzanne Burnham, Bob Gourley, and Kaye (Ross) Brown; thirteen nieces and nephews and their children. Preceded in death by his father and mother; brother-in-law, Howard Burnham; sister-in-law, Susan Gourley; and nephew, Tom Linton.
Our Family would like to express a special thanks to Collet and Patty, who have been Jim’s care givers for the past two years. They are remarkable!
