In Loving Memory of Jay Donald Bowers

10/20/1928-4/24/2022

Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Jay Donald Bowers left this earthly life in the early hours of Sunday April 24, 2022. Jay was born October 20, 1928, in Garfield, Utah to loving parents, Harrison and Eva Bowers.  Jay is preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Vao Bowers, Robert Bowers, and Jack Bowers, and sister LaUna Cavanee.

Jay graduated from Cyprus High School in 1947. He then married the love of his life, Yvonne Rushton. They were married and sealed in the Idaho Falls temple on August 9, 1947.  Jay is survived by his wife, Yvonne and three children Kevin (Connie) Bowers, Kyle Bowers, Wendy (Mike) DeBry.  Jay had nine grandchildren: LuAnnie Dye, Lance Bowers, Tina Johnson, Amy Andersen, Boyd Bowers, Kara Nielsen, Jennifer Whitehead, Jeremy DeBry, and Brittney Pett. Jay also had 20 great-grandchildren that he loved dearly and bragged about often.

Jay and Yvonne celebrated their 72-year wedding anniversary last August. Their marriage was an example of undevoted love to one another and an example to all. Jay idolized Yvonne and was always looking for ways to put her first. He fought to the very end to stay with his beloved wife and make sure she was taken care of.

Jay worked at Kennecott Utah Copper as a carpenter and millwright. Jay made many lifelong friends through his work and often spoke of them. After an unforgettable 40-year career with Kennecott, Jay retired and drove school buses for Granite district for 10 years.

Jay was an amazing carpenter in his wood shop. Many friends and family enjoyed the benefits of his skills with his gifts of rocking horses, doll cradles, woodpeckers and many more beautiful crafts. Jay loved and spent many hours in his shop.

Jay was an amazing light in this world. All who knew him were better for it. He had a way of making friends with anyone and everyone. Jay had a witty sense of humor and will be remembered for his jokes! Jay believed in hard work and was not afraid to roll up his sleeves and get the job done! Jay and Yvonne loved camping in their trailer, vacationing in Jackson Hole, St George and cruising. Jay knew every mom-and-pop restaurant from West Valley to St. George. His love of McDonald’s and cuisine was a highlight in his life.

We loved and will miss his stories, his influence, and his love. Grandpa, the world will not be the same without you, may the Lord bless and keep you until we meet again. Love your family!
