Joan Sorensen Newman passed away peacefully in her sleep September 21, 2014. She was born February 7, 1946 in American Fork, UT to Frank and Bertha Bates Sorensen. She married Larry Newman in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Joan actively served in the LDS Church. She worked with elementary children for 26 years with Granite School District. She is survived by her husband of 46 years; daughters, Marlies (Vaughn) Avery and Kaylin (Mike) De Vries; 7 grandkids, Jared, Cameron, Mikayla, Mckenzie, Jacob, Shayla, and Kayleb; and siblings, Wesley (Evelyn) Sorensen, Lemond (Verna) Sorensen, Bertha (Elliot) Weiss, Pauline Frank, and DeWayne (Joyce) Sorensen. Preceded in death by parents; and 2 sisters, Mary Ellen Sorensen and Freda Larsen.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Hunter West Stake, 2811 S. 6400 W. , where visitations will be held both Thursday 6-8 p.m. and Friday 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment: Elysian Burial Gardens. Online condolences: www.peelfuneralhome.com
