Kael Hunzeker

September 19, 1976 — March 8, 2019

Kael Isaac Asher Hunzeker 1976-2019

Kael Isaac Asher Hunzeker passed away at home the morning of Friday March 8, 2019, due to unexpected post-operative complications.  Born Kaylynn Hunzeker September 19, 1976, the third child of Bill and Kathy Hunzeker, as an adult he legally transitioned into Kael.

Kael had a rough start in life. Weighing only 3 pounds as a premature baby, Kael had a prolonged hospital stay after birth.  Diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 17 as a senior in High School, Kael still managed to graduate from Cyprus High School in 1995.  Though treatment was difficult, Kael made a full recovery from cancer.  This experience only made him more aware of other people’s suffering.  Kael was a loving and generous soul.

Kael’s nieces and nephews meant everything to him.  Not long after his sister Susan’s divorce, Kael moved in to help Susan with raising her four energetic girls; Miranda, Madison, Tanille and Taryn.  He helped with everything that was needed.  After moving out, Kael continued to do “Uncle Visitations” most weekends to take those nieces somewhere fun.  This he continued to do at least once a month until his passing.

As a career choice, Kael worked with those that needed nurturing. Those who had physical or mental challenges were easy for Kael to love.  He worked for many years at assisted living facilities caring for the needy.  There he met his best friend Pam.  This caring attitude carried over to the animal kingdom as Kael cared for the family’s senile animals through the end of their lives.  In fact, Kael’s picture album is full of portraits of family and family pets from long ago.  Kael was a vegetarian because he loved animals so very much.  He was passionate about caring for the earth, giving back, and recycling.

Kael had a love and respect for everyone.  He was a caring person who did much to help those in need.  He was a champion for the underdog and people who were discriminated against.  The kid in class who nobody liked, was made fun of or shunned; Kael befriended that person as well as others. As a child, he would occasionally dress up like a homeless person, pretend to live behind the couch under a blanket and eat oatmeal, mindful of their suffering.

Family meant everything to Kael.  He never forgot a family member’s birthday, and always gave thoughtful gifts.  He encouraged us to gather as a family to celebrate family traditions and special occasions by enjoying each other’s company.  Last Veteran’s day was spent taking his dad Bill out for the day.  Our hearts mourn the loss of our beloved Kael.

Kael was preceded in death by his mother Kathy Hunzeker.  Kael is survived by his father Bill Hunzeker, step-mother Mary Hunzeker, sister Susan Berry, brother Fred (Stephanie) Hunzeker, many nieces and nephews, and best friend Pam Ferguson.
