Lorraine Prows Haviland

January 26, 1948 — August 27, 2022

Lorraine Haviland, age 74, of West Valley City, UT, passed away on August 27, 2022.

Her battle with cancer showed her courage and ability to face life’s challenges with a smile. Lorraine kept her joyous outlook on life through the end.

Lorraine was born on January 26, 1948, the second of five children to Jean Prows and Lucille Warby Prows in Beaver, Utah.

Lorraine was blessed to meet the love of her life, Curtis, at the beginning of her senior year of High School. Their engagement lasted 7 months before ending with their spontaneous elopement on March 18th, 1966. She raised her three children in West Valley City, teaching them to serve others and love the Lord.

Lorraine loved to horseback ride, camp and travel with family and friends. She loved spending time with family, encouraging family gatherings and inviting her grandchildren to sleep over. In her earlier years, she loved ceramics, reading, sewing, and singing. Later, she enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren, sharing recipes and painting nails. Lorraine loved to meet people and had the gift to listen to others and ease their burdens. She loved to hear about the adventures her family experienced and would ask each person about their individual lives, seeking a deeper, more personal relationship with them.

Her greatest treasures were her grandchildren. Each one knew they were her favorite, and that she was the best grandma.

Through life, Lorraine built up her testimony. She served in different callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and enjoyed sharing her faith and testimony with those around her. She served both silently and through words. Lorraine loved to serve others through food, cooking meals and personalizing dishes to serve the one. She was able to listen to those around her, and help lift their burden by making them laugh.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Jean and Lucille, and brother Craig.

She is survived by her husband, Curtis; daughters, Kristy Fowler (Roger) and Cory Hardman (Jeremy); son, Jesse Haviland (Andrea); brother, Doug Prows; sisters, Lynnea Beacht and Kayleen McQueen; 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; and too many beloved family members to name.

The viewing will be held at Peel Funeral Home (8525 West Magna Main Street) on Friday, September 2nd from 6-8 PM. Funeral Services with streaming will be held Saturday, September 3rd from 1-2 PM with a public viewing from 12:00-12:45 at the church house, located at 3450 South 6400 West, West Valley City, UT, followed by a graveside service at Valley View Memorial Park.
