Ludean Aldrich

In loving memory of Ludean Brown Aldrich (78), a remarkable woman who filled the lives of those around her with warmth and kindness. Ludean, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on January 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on January 13, 1946, in Salina, UT, Ludean was the third child of Kenneth B and Beatrice (Burr) Brown. Growing up in Greenwich, UT, she cherished moments feeding chickens, tending to the garden, riding horses, and helping her dad on the milk truck.

Despite early struggles with reading, Ludean's determination, and the support of her high school teacher, Garth Bagley, led her to graduate as the class Valedictorian of Piute High School in 1964. Inspired to make a difference, she pursued a degree in Elementary Education at the College of Southern Utah in Cedar City, graduating in May 1970.

In 1968, Ludean met the love of her life, Lawrence Aldrich, while working at Fish Lake Lodge. Their love story further unfolded through letters during Larry's overseas military service in Thailand and Vietnam. They married on June 20, 1970, in Koosharem, UT, sealing their bond in the Manti, UT temple on October 9, 1971.

For nearly 40 years, Ludean called Magna, UT home, raising three children with Larry. A dedicated homemaker, she volunteered at her children's school, and worked for over 20 years as a Title 1 Specialist assisting children overcome learning challenges. After retirement, they moved to West Jordan, UT to be closer to their daughters.

Ludean was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She had a strong testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She had a vibrant personality and befriended anyone with whom she came in contact. She served in many callings including, primary teacher, Cub Scout leader, Young Women camp director and Relief Society and Primary President. Her favorite times were when she was able to work with children and youth. Many children in the ward and neighborhood school called her "Ladybug" for years, after she performed as a ladybug in a Stake Roadshow.

Ludean’s love extended to sewing, quilting and the outdoors where she spent many hours in her flower and vegetable gardens or camping with her family. She loved to listen to the country and western music of such greats as Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell, Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. You could also find her reading western and romance novels or completing a word search.

Ludean was preceded in death by her parents; ArvaLee Bertelson (older sister); Earl "Billy" Brown (older brother); and only son Richard Aldrich. Ludean's memory lives on through her loving husband of 53 years, Larry; daughters, Michelle (Calvin) Lundgren and Rachael Hopkins; younger sister Mabel (Stephen) Johnson; grandchildren, Adam Lundgren, Camille (Cody) Bullock, Jesse Hopkins, and Wyatt Hopkins; great-grandson, Thain Bullock, and many other cherished relatives and friends.
