Lugene (Luie) Redmond Hunter
Born 06/16/1959
Died 01/24/2026
Passed away peacefully at home on Saturday morning, January 24, 2026. She was born in Salt Lake City on June 16, 1959, to Jerry and Mardee Redmond. She was the third child of seven.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She started her school years at Magna Elementary, continued at Brockbank Junior High, and finished at Cyprus High School, Class of 1977. She had one daughter, Kimberley York, and three grandchildren. Chance and the twins Hunter & Lillian, who were her greatest joy. She loved them dearly and cherished every moment she spent with them.
Her journey took her from the familiar streets of Magna, Utah to Fremont, California, Strongsville, Ohio, and even Mazatlán, Mexico, before finding her place back in her hometown of Magna. Luie found her true professional calling in the healthcare field. She possessed a rare ability to connect deeply with patients and their families, often turning brief encounters into lifelong bonds. Her coworkers weren’t just colleagues; they became her very dear friends. Above all, Luie was a caregiver who devoted herself with the same nurturing spirit that extended into her own home, where she spent years devotedly caring for her mother.
She met lifelong friends at every stop. One great story is of a delayed flight, and she asked a lady she had been chatting with to “watch her beer” while she went to check on upcoming flights. They became great friends over the next 25 years. That friend, Peggy Smith, would eventually ask Lugene to be in her wedding line. Distance was never a barrier for Luie. She was the thread that kept her family informed and connected. Whether she was 250 miles away or right next door, she always knew the latest news before anyone else. She would send a text to fill you in on the weather, the latest breaking news, a fire, or even an earthquake. We jokingly called her “the detective.”
Her artistic talents were most evident in the beautiful music and picture videos she created for special occasions for her family and friends. One of her proudest moments was bridging the digital gap for her family, successfully teaching her father how to use Skype so they could stay connected. Her dad was so excited that he could see her on the computer and be able to talk at the same time.
Lugene was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Redmond; and brother, Jeff Redmond
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly York - Colorado Springs, CO; mother, Mardee Redmond - Magna, UT; siblings, Sally Best - Aurora CO, Quinn Redmond (Elizabeth) - Magna, UT, Deanna McNary (Brian) - Toquerville, UT, Derek Redmond (Angie) - Magna UT, Elizabeth Jepson (Brett) - St. George, UT; and grandchildren, Chance, Hunter, Lillian - Colorado Springs, CO.
There will be a Celebration of Life and a luncheon for family and close friends on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 11am at the LDS Church on 8181 W. Breeze Dr. Magna, UT.
