Maretta R. Hatton

Maretta R. Hatton, age 94, of Magna, Utah, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Born September 20, 1931, in Pasadena, California. Maretta lived a full and vibrant life marked by kindness, service, and a deep love for family and community. She and her beloved husband, David K. Hatton, spent most of their lives in Magna,Utah. David preceded her in death a few years ago.

Maretta worked in a variety of roles that reflected her caring nature and varied interests, including as a dental/medical assistant, lifeguard and Red Cross swimming instructor. She also enjoyed being a member of the church choir and Utah’s water ballet team. She gave freely of her time and talents by providing haircuts to many of the town’s young men as they prepared to leave for their LDS missions.

An avid traveler, Maretta and Dave cherished their time exploring the country in their travel trailer. They especially enjoyed escaping the cold Utah winters by spending time in Yuma, AZ, Quartzsite, AZ, and various cities in Mexico. They vacationed in many places, and some of their favorite trips included Alaska, Hawaii, San Francisco, Washington State, the Caribbean, Montreal, and Boston. They made many friends in their travels.

Maretta is survived by her children: David (Viki), Ralph (Pamela), Teddy (Jim Frescholtz), and Brett. She was preceded in death by her son Douglas Kent, who passed away as a child, as well as her siblings Jenny Childs, Alan Rushton, and John Rushton.

Maretta volunteered each year at the Utah State Fair in the horticultural building, where she assisted her mother (also named Maretta) in judging the flower arranging competitions.

She had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the joys of her life.

She was known for her kind and thoughtful spirit. Many people sought her advice and valued her wisdom.

Her life was one of quiet strength, generosity, and love for those around her.

She will be deeply missed by her family and all whose lives she touched.

There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 10:00 am at

Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park

3401 Highland Dr, Millcreek, UT

Following the graveside service, the family will host a luncheon at David and Viki Hatton’s home at 1:00 pm.
