Marilyn Sadler Hayda

1936 – 2026

Marilyn Hayda, 90, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, at her home in Magna, Utah, surrounded by her family.

She was born on January 6, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Julian Sadler and Mary Worthington Sadler.

Marilyn married William “Bill” Hayda on January 12, 1955, at the Copper Club in Magna, Utah.

Growing up, Marilyn and her friends were inseparable. They often reminisced about cruising Main Street in Magna and visiting the Great Salt Lake—even during school hours. These friendships lasted a lifetime, and the group continued meeting for lunch at least once a month until recently. They shared many laughs, especially when they joined a ladies’ bowling league. Her dear friend Nette Cobbely, the last surviving member of the group, visited Marilyn on March 5, and the two reminisced for hours. Nette and Marilyn had known each other for 85 years.

Marilyn was the ultimate caretaker. She and Bill helped many family members with their children over the years. She spent countless days with her good friend Bernice Cobbely while Bernice was battling cancer. Marilyn also lovingly cared for her husband through numerous surgeries, supported her parents as they aged, and cared for her mother-in-law, Teresa Hayda. Above all, she supported her children throughout their lives and never missed their activities.

Marilyn is survived by her three sons, William Scott Hayda, Allen Craig Hayda, and Richard (Desi) Hayda; her son-in-law, Guy (Kathy) Smith; and her sister-in-law, Anne Hayda Herrington, who was much more like a sister. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Kathy Hayda Smith; her brother, Jay Sadler; her in-laws, Frank and Teresa Hayda; and her grandson, Steven Wayne Larsen.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 21, at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Church, 3606 S. Wing Pointe Dr., Magna, Utah 84044. A viewing will take place prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
