Marilyn Mangum

July 19, 1941 — November 7, 2018

Marilynn (Mumford) Mangum, age 77 of Magna Utah, moved into eternity, Wednesday, November 7th, 2018. She was at home, where she wanted to be, surrounded by those she cherished and those who cherished her. With the sound of four of her eighteen Great Grandchildren playing in the living room just down from where she passed, Marilynn was comfortable and fully aware that her passing was imminent. Born July 19th, 1941 to Thomas Mark and Frances Bridget (Frank) Mumford she is the middle child of three and is survived by husband Marvin Earl Mangum, her brother Ronald Mumford,(Carol) and sister Christine (Mumford) Done,(Jaron), her Children Marilee (Mangum) Roose, (Carl), T. Mark Mangum, (Barbara), Matthew (Matt) E. Mangum, (Janna), and Michelle (Mangum) Fischer, (Curt), twenty-two Grandchildren and eighteen Great Grandchildren.

Marilynn loved to celebrate the holidays enjoying the fireworks of the Fourth of July. When we were young, she would decorate the family home, fond in our memories are the Christmas inspired murals on the large Livingroom window and her Halloween costumes. She was our heroine, always looking out for us. After informing Dad about our daily wrongs you could hear her in the background saying, “now don’t you hurt them,” as the discipline was administered. That memory is more Marilee’s and Mark’s, we must have worn our parents out as Matthew and Michell got away with everything. Keeping to her Heroine role she once accosted the Electricity Meter reader who seemed to be spending two much time at windows around the neighborhood, putting to use her karate skills. She worked nights, so she could be with us before school. Though money was tight at times it never seemed that way. Except that one year when the only back to school clothes we could afford were the plaid pants from sears.

Still maintaining her heroism antics well into life, Dad and she jumped the Utah Ship and Moved to Fort Sill, Oklahoma to help their oldest son with their Grandchildren while he served in the United States Army, then again moving back to Utah to help their youngest daughter with their Grandchildren in her time of need.  Later in life, she served on the Board of the Magna Senior Center, and loved crafting, toll painting, quilting, and her latest craft was diamond dots. When Marilynn loved you, you knew you were loved. She married her love Marvin E. Mangum on June 14th, 1962, in the Salt Lake Temple, while attending the University of Utah, where she studied Music. Her love of music was deep, she enjoyed playing the piano and listened to a varied mix of genera from Tom Jones to Captain & Tennille or even Wynona Judd, it’s not surprising to learn that she would have enjoyed the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. She and dad passed this love on to their children and grandchildren.
