Mark Eldon Elieson

1952-2026

Mark, 74, passed away in Salt Lake City, UT on April 7, 2026. Mark was born on February 7, 1952 in Salt Lake City, UT to Walter and Beverly Elieson. Mark married Judy Bair on January 25, 1975 in Springfield, ID.

The old saying "the jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one" fits Mark about as well as anyone we've ever known. Through either profession education and training or his unending curiosity and willingness to tackle almost anything, Mark filled his mental toolbox with enough skills to help pretty much anyone with just about anything. From the construction of two family cabins, countless home remodels and repairs, automotive projects, woodworking hobbies, a nursery operation and about a dozen different money making ventures with his wife, Judy, there really wasn't much that Dad didn't have his hands in. Always their first call when looking for advice on how to get something done, Dad passed his curiosity, versatility and ability to "figure it out" on to his three sons who he was very proud of. Dad spent years being the guy that people relied on for help and he always seemed ready to offer it, even if it was occasionally unsolicited advice to a confused DIYer at the hardware store.

Mark and Judy were always exploring. From family camping and road trips with the kids early on, to retirement adventures through Glacier NP and Oahu, Hawaii to Alaskan cruises, Dad was always a worthy travel companion for Mom. We were all a little impressed but not surprised at all when Dad bought a Harley trike and took Mom on a multi-state bike trip through and around Yellowstone NP... in their mid 60s! His impulsive tendencies are another trait his boys seemed to pick up on early.

Dad wanted to be involved in everything. That led him into local politics and civic engagement. From the rodeo planning committee in West Jordan 40 years ago to running for office and serving on planning commissions in his local township more recently, Mark seemed to have a surprising amount of energy to contribute.

When He and Mom moved out to Magna about 20 years ago they immediately realized they were Home with a capital "H." Taking immediate ownership of their little town in the corner of the valley, Dad had a great pride in Magna and they quickly became a local staple. Immediately recognizable, the giant chainsaw carvings, pleasant landscaping and Dad's greenhouse made their little piece of town a landmark in the neighborhood. We know his community will miss his contribution to their gardens going forward. Dad's flower and vegetable nursery was a thing to witness. His and Mom's tendency to give away more vegetables than they could eat or preserve will likely leave neighbors missing the sight of there large garden growing.

We would like to thank Dad's care teams at Huntsman Cancer Institute and University of Utah Hospital for their compassion, care and attention over the last year and a half. They went above and beyond to accommodate and comfort him and make the final stretch of his journey easier on him and his family.

Mark was survived by his siblings, Eric(Jann), Barbara, Judy (LeRoy), John (Linda), Sue (Scott), Paul (Lisa), Kathy (Kyle); his sons, Jeremy, Christopher, Mark (Soozy); and grandchildren, Erin (Jack) and Lily (Charlotte).

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy; parents, Walter and Beverly and sister Kris.
