Marlene Marvel McBride was born November 22, 1935, in Plain City, UT, to William E. and Marvel E. Thompson. She was the oldest of four children. She was married to Jack Zeimer and later divorced. Married Jay Frances McBride in August of 1954 in Elko, Nevada. Marlene and Jay raised four children together.
She passed away on March 8, 2026, in West Valley City, UT.
Marlene spent her life working hard for her family and in service to her faith. In her later years, she devoted her life to being a missionary for her church. Throughout her long life, her faith was always strong, and even when dementia stole her capacity to reason and remember, she never wavered in her love for God.
Marlene leaves behind her children, Patty (Glen) Paulsen, Dennis (Josyne) McBride, Jay (Dana) McBride, and Brent (Margaret) McBride, twelve grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren; her brother, Billy Thompson, and her sister, Jeanette (Tommy) Parkinson. Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, Jay, and sister, Nancy McMullin.
Marlene made many friends throughout her life, and she was always willing to lend an ear or offer a ride. Hers was a life spent serving others, and she spent many hours over the years helping her congregation erect new buildings, even traveling out of state to offer her willing hands. She also had the pleasure of traveling to many places, such as Australia, Poland, and Hawaii, to attend worldwide church gatherings. In each of those trips, she always made friends, many of whom she stayed connected with over the years. She spent her last few days writing letters to people, and even through the fog of dementia, she had the desire to “catch up” on the letters she owed.
Special thanks to her congregation members who were always willing to help her get to church and who made special visits when she became housebound. They were always so willing to help her feel included despite her failing health. And incredibly special thanks to her Hospice Care Team, Jennifer, Aaleighyah, and Sydnee from Aspire Home Health. They truly were angels without wings that made Marlene’s last days much better.
A family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
