Mary (Merrie) Rasmussen Thomas

May 16, 1929 – January 30, 2022

Mary Rasmussen Thomas, age 92, passed away on January 30, 2022, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She was born on May 16, 1929 in Hunter, Utah to Lon Rasmussen and Susan Lewis Rasmussen. She attended Cyprus High School, Magna, Utah, where she met Robert D. Thomas and they were married April 2, 1947, later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in December 1966.

Many things brought her joy. She loved to visit with friends, work in the garden, and visit with family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved sending cards and finding just the right gifts for everyone. She loved birthdays and Christmas, especially. She was an excellent cook and loved to host Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. She loved to travel with dad and made everything an adventure, seeing new places and meeting new people. She also loved to sew and was an expert seamstress, creating beautiful clothing for her daughters and grandchildren. She was always interested in what everyone was doing and made sure you knew she cared about you. Mom was always very influential in helping her daughters achieve their life-long goals and dreams. She lived a long, full life and we were privileged to take the ride alongside her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mary is survived by her children; Sherrie (David), Katherine (Stephen), Sandra (Kim), Tracey (Gregory). She leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

A walkthrough viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 W. 2700 S., Magna, Utah. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. but will be limited to immediate family only. Interment at Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 W. 4100 S., West Valley City, UT, following the funeral.
