Michael Lee McGowan
1948-2026
Michael, 77, passed away on July 6 2026 in Magna, Utah.
He was born on October 15, 1948 in Vallejo, CA to Ralph and Dorothy McGowan.
Michael spent 14 years in Martinez, CA before moving to Magna with his parents and younger siblings Gary and Debbie. After finishing high school he served in the Marine Corps, which he was fiercely proud of, seeing combat duty during the Vietnam War.
To support his family he worked for 40 years at the Tooele Army Depot where he was frequently recognized for his hard work. After retirement he stocked produce at his neighborhood Walmart, working alongside his grandson Chase.
Michael was an avid camper, backpacker, and fisherman, especially in his beloved Uinta Mountains. He passed his love and reverence of the outdoors to his children. He was also an early video gamer. From the late 1970s until his death he always had a game in progress. He also loved music, especially rock and roll from the 50s 60s and 70s (even begrudgingly admitting some newer music was good too). His kids are grateful that he shared his hobbies freely with them.
Later in life he became a coin collector, giving gifts to his grandkids that helped build their futures.
Survived by his children: Kristen (Dallas), Matthew (Melissa), and Benjamin (RoChelle); grandchildren Chase, Tessa, Adeline, Jack, and Penelope; and nieces Brandi and Holly.
Preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gary, his sister Debbie, and his nephew Christopher.
He will be laid to rest with full military honors at Camp Williams in a family ceremony and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
