Rick Nathan Brutsman

Rick Nathan Brutsman, age 43, passed away on April 12, 2026, in West Valley City, Utah.

Rick was born on January 28, 1983, in Merced, California, to Liza Guadalupe Melendez. He was raised in Corning, New York, and attended Corning-Painted Post High School. He later became a self-taught entrepreneur whose strong work ethic, determination, and commitment to personal growth guided him throughout his life. Rick worked as a loan modification specialist and credit repair specialist, helping many individuals improve their financial circumstances.

Having faced challenges in his early years, Rick developed a deep compassion for others. He was dedicated to helping those in need, particularly individuals seeking recovery and a path forward. At the time of his passing, he was pursuing his goal of opening an outpatient treatment center, reflecting his commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Rick also had a deep passion for health and fitness. He spent much of his time in the gym, finding both strength and clarity through physical training. He believed in the importance of discipline, self-care, and pushing oneself to grow—not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. His dedication to a healthy lifestyle inspired many around him to take better care of themselves and strive for personal improvement. He was also known to keep things light—never missing a chance to crack a joke or playfully flex on friends and family, often reminding everyone (with a smirk) that he “worked hard for those muscles.”

Rick will be remembered for his generosity, mentorship, sense of humor, and the positive energy he brought into every room. His ability to encourage and uplift those around him left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He is survived by his children: Dominic Massey; Joslynn T. Nicole Mendoza; Kaedyn Alexander Sarver; Myca Alex Davidson; Xavier J. Covington; Uriah Ted Brutsman; Arantxa Brutsman; and Cataleya Brutsman; as well as his grandsons, Xavier and Nikilyn. He was preceded in death by his mother, Liza Guadalupe Melendez, and his grandfathers.

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held on April 25, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 West Magna Main Street, Magna, Utah. A dinner will follow at 756 E. Redmaple Road, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Rick’s legacy lives on through the lives he changed, the strength he instilled in others, and the love he poured into his children and family. His resilience, compassion, discipline, and unwavering drive to help others will continue to inspire all who knew him. Though he is gone, the impact of his life will be felt for generations to come.
