Ruth Irene Sorenson Smith

1931-2016

Our beautiful, funny, sweet mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Ruth Irene Sorenson Smith passed away peacefully on January 14, 2016. She was the oldest of 3 children born to Ernest and Irene Sorenson on August 20, 1931 in Levan, Utah. Ruth grew up in Nephi and graduated from Juab High School.  She married James W. Smith Jr. and they spent 53 wonderful years together before his passing in 2008.  They had two daughters Patti and Bobbi. She worked for First Security Bank for over 27 years of service before retiring.  Ruth loved music and taught dance when she was younger.  She enjoyed watching the Utah Jazz basketball games, going to the movies and always loved going out to lunch.  She loved her time living at Legacy Retirement for the past 8 years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Survived by her children, Patti (Allan) Greenland and their children, Trevor and Hailey, and Bobbi (Terry) Mackay and their children, Madison and James; brother, Roger (Judy); and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Richard Sorenson; and nephew, Scotty Sorenson.

Ruth was such a sweet lady and a wonderful example of goodness, love and dedication to her family and friends.  She will be greatly missed.

We would like to thank Yasmina and Kara for their loving care at Legacy and Janet Harris, her nurse from Aspire for her sincere love and wonderful care prior to her passing.
