Shawn Steven Empey

“PAPA SHAWN”

September 1967- March 2026

Shawn Steven Empey was born September 1, 1967 in Salt Lake City, UT to Don Steven Empey & Mary Kathlene Bowen-Empey. On March 25, 2026 Shawn passed away peacefully at the age of 58.

He grew up in Magna, UT where he attended Cyprus High School. Throughout his childhood he made many lifelong friends, they spent countless days on the baseball field and golf course. In his younger days, he was known as “WOG”. 

Later in life, Shawn met the love of his life, Heidi Stewart-Empey. Where he welcomed three bonus children that he loved and cherished. This was when he was given his favorite title: “PAPA SHAWN”, he then became a proud Grandpa to Briylee, Justin, Taya, Aria, and Weston. Boy did he love those kids! 

Shawn was known by those he loved for his generosity, always willing to give without hesitation. He had a heart big enough to help anyone, and a sense of humor honest enough to complain about it the whole time. 

He is survived by the love of his life,Heidi Stewart-Empey; children, Steven (Alora), Cheyenne (John), Zach (Sam); grandchildren, Briylee, Justin, Taya, Aria and Weston; his,  parents, Steve (Vickie) and Kathlene Bowen; sisters, MeriKae (Bink) and Jessica (Travis);  brothers, Layne (Jonie), Troy (Tracy), and Travis; nieces and nephews, Sara (David), Jesse (Bennett), Kiersten (Dakota), Sydney, and Bryson. Along with numerous family members. We can’t forget his favorite fur-babies Roscoe and Chewy.

He is preceded in death by grandparents, Elmer Bowen, Sara Darley-Bowen, Don Empey, and Laverne Coon Empey; father-in-law, Paul Stewart, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

Grandma Empey will have her favorite “S” there with her, and you can bet she will be offering to fix him something to eat.

Services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Peel Funeral Home. 8525 W. Magna Main St., Magna, UT.

Visitation - 10:00 am

Funeral - 11:00 am

Interment following the funeral at Pleasant Green Cemetery. 9200 W. 3500 S., Magna, UT
