Sherman Griffith

The world lost one of the greatest who ever played this game of life.

Sherman Dale Griffith died on June 4, 2025, because he missed Mom, and she was tired of waiting for him, so she came and got him.

Dad was born on November 16, 1940, to Hattie and Ralph Griffith. He started his days and ended his days in Lake Point, Utah, and everything in the middle was epic! He loved working at Kennecott and even earned his associates degree with straight A’s while he was there. He loved University of Utah Football. He and Mom had season tickets forever. He loved camping and hunting. His Zeb and Jeb stories were legendary. He loved Monday Breakfast Club and Friday Night Supper Club. Thank you all for being such a fabulous part of his life! He loved archery, having won national tournaments and just being everyone’s favorite friend among the archery circles. He was an amazing archery coach. He coached mom to national and international wins and even coached Governors and Congressmen. He and Mom were inducted into the Utah Archery Hall of Fame. He loved his Father in Heaven and his Savior, being, in his words, not a religious man, but a spiritual one. But most of all, he loved us. Carolyn was his soul mate and his first love. They married on  January 6, 1960. How he adored her! He really was an amazing girl dad. How he survived four daughters, we’ll never know! And did he ever love us! Kelly, Joanie, Holly, and Amy were his light and his joy, and we are all so much the better because of him. Besides mom and the four of us girls, there were sixteen grandkids, twenty-one great-grandkids, and even one great, great-great-grandkid!

He leaves behind his kids, Joanie and Nathan Hammer, Holly and Jeff Langston, Amy Griffith; siblings, Marlow Griffith and Gloria Smith; sister-in-law, Janet Williams; brother-in-law, Brian Williams, his Monday Morning Breakfast Club, and lifelong besties Frank and Jackie Warburton.

He is lucky enough to meet up with old friends, his folks, most of his siblings, but best of all, our sister Kelly and her sweet husband DeWayne, and especially his sweetheart Carolyn! Oh, to be a witness to that!

We’ll honor and celebrate him on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Day Saints 1366 Canyon Road, Lake Point, Utah. Visitation will be from 10:30 - 11:30 am that morning, followed by the service at Noon. Following the service, we’ll gather for a great send-off at the Lake Point Cemetery, 7831 North Mountain View Road.

In lieu of flowers, give to a cause that you believe in, take a friend to dinner and just catch up, be kind, tell someone you love them, or just be a good person to your fellow humans.
