Steven J. Syme, better known by many as Steve, Red, and Ingway. Steve was born on August 6, 1965, to Boyce Jackson Syme and Sarah (Sally) Syme at Valley West Hospital in Granger, Utah. Steve was raised alongside his brothers and sister in Magna, Utah, and continued living there for many years of his life.
Steve was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 8 years old. His parents gifted him his first welding hood after this rite of passage. His father taught him the craft of welding, and he began working for the family business that same year. He became an expert welder and mastered operating heavy machinery.
Steven sought the comfort of the wilderness and loved spending time in the mountains, hiking, hunting, horseback riding, and fishing in lakes and streams. He was bold and loved adventure. His life was filled with the thrill of his many adventures including snow and water skiing, cliff diving, bull and bronco riding, amusement attractions, and riding his motorcycle. Most recently, he spent time skydiving with his nephew, Gary.
Red was gifted with creativity and raw talent and became an accomplished swimmer while attending Cyprus High School. Music was a pivotal part of his life, and he was self-taught in playing the bass guitar. Yes, he was in a band! It was a true 80’s rock band.
Steve married twice. His first wife was Kayla, and they were blessed with his only daughter, Nicole. He and Kayla divorced. He later married and divorced Cristeen.
Nicole was the whole world to Steve! Becoming her dad was the highlight of his life.
He loved his family and life, and he lived his life to the fullest. He spent every moment he could making memories with his daughter, family, and friends. His last moments were spent with his daughter when he passed on October 13, 2023.
