Susan Irene Sundell (Shafter) Korous Roberts

August 5, 1944 – July 28, 2017

Susan left this life to join her mother, Irene, and dad, Frank and husband, George, in the Spirit World. Susan was born in Billings, MT to Irene Beckstead and Emil Sundell. Later her dad, Frank Shafter, joined the family. She is survived by her brother, Russell Emil Shafter, and her children Alan Edward (Debbie) Korous, Frank Scott Korous, James Michael (Lisa) Korous, Stephanie Jo (James) Brown, Steven Joseph Korous and Camille Irene (Michael) Thiemig; 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Susan was an accomplished singer, pianist and organist. She studied organ under Tabernacle organist Alexander Schreiner.

Susan graduated from Cyprus High School in 1962 and married her first sweetheart, Michael Alan Korous, that same summer. Years later she married her last sweetheart, George Roberts.

She enjoyed many crafts including stitching, crocheting, knitting, wreathing making and Native American themed items.

Professionally Susan became an LPN and then an RN getting her degrees from Weber State College’s program at Salt Lake Community College. She initially worked in Critical Care Pediatrics at the University of Utah Hospital but changed to Geriatrics for the majority of her career.

She served in many church callings in her earlier married life such as music, young women’s and Primary callings. She served a mission in the Charleston West Virginia Mission later in life and served as organist and instructor in her last ward.

Funeral service will be Friday, August 4, 2017 at 12:00 pm at the Granger North Stake Center, 3175 S 3450 W WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah. Viewing one hour before Funeral. Interment: Pleasant Green Cemetery.
