Thomas Coon

March 9, 1950 — October 25, 2014

Magna, UT—Tom Coon, 64, took his final ride early Saturday morning, October 25, 2014 ending his twenty-year battle with liver disease. Tom was born on March 9, 1950—the son of Ferris Breeze Coon and Eva Jean McAllister.  In 1968, Tom married his Cyprus High School sweetheart, Karen Coffey, laying the foundation for a marriage that lasted 46 years. Tom was a cowboy.  He loved rodeo, hunting, and riding in the mountains. More than that, he loved doing these things with family and friends.  Tom’s love for others made it easy for them to love him.  Over the years, he took advantage of the opportunity to serve faithfully in a variety of callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He especially enjoyed working with the youth—they were drawn to his genuine kindness.  In his professional life, he spent nearly 20 years working at Kennecott and an additional 20 years working at the LDS Church’s Granite Mountain Records Vault. Tom is survived by his wife Karen; his sons Chad (Julie) and Cody (Melissa); his grandchildren: Makenzie, McKay, Alyse, Tanner, Grant, and Kierstyn; his father Ferris; brother Mike (Rita); and Sister Carolyn (Mike); as well as many other family members and lifelong friends.  He is preceded in death by his mother Jean Coon.

Funeral services will be held 12 noon Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the LDS Chapel located on 7035 Lochness Ave. (3605 South) with a viewing prior to the service from 9:00 am-11:40 a.m. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park. Online condolences: www.peelfuneralhome.com
