IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Tye Jed
Taylor
June 5, 1967 – November 7, 2025
Tye Jed Taylor, 58, passed away on November 7, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on June 5, 1967, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Jed and Marilyn Taylor.
Tye married Chris Mamales Taylor on August 19, 1989, at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Salt Lake City, Utah — later divorced. Together they raised two children, Alexandra Garner (Wes) and Samuel Taylor (Sydni), who were the pride of his life. He was a devoted and fun-loving grandfather to Tyler Garner, Esme Garner, Owen Garner, and Theo Taylor. Additionally, he was a beloved uncle to more than thirty nieces and nephews.
Tye graduated from Cyprus High School in 1986 and shared a lifelong passion for training and racing thoroughbreds with his father. Some of his happiest moments were spent riding horses alongside his father and brother in the mountains hunting and fishing — pursuits that reflected his love of the peace he felt being in nature. He also spent more than two decades coaching youth hockey throughout the greater Salt Lake area, including at Judge Memorial Catholic High School and the Sat Lake Golden Eagles. Whether on the ice or in the stands cheering for his beloved Dallas Stars, hockey was a constant thread in his adult life. Through his dedication, humor, and heart, Tye made a profound impact on hundreds of young men during their adolescence — teaching lessons that extended far beyond the rink.
A talented tile contractor for over 30 years, Tye brought creativity and precision to every project he touched. Beyond his work, he was known for his quick wit, his larger-than-life personality, and his uncanny ability to make even a room full of people break into tears and laughter.
Tye is survived by his father, Jed Taylor; brother, Ron Taylor; sister, Tiffany Timothy (Brian); his children; his grandchildren; and his loving girlfriend Chantel Sly, who brought him joy and companionship in his later years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at St. Anna’s Greek Orthodox Church, 9201 S 1300 E, Sandy, Utah. All friends and family of Tye are welcome to attend and send him off in the way he would have wanted — surrounded by laughter, unorthodox stories, and the people he loved most.
