Val Ross McQuivey
February 12, 1937-November 9, 2021
On November 9, 2021, we lost not only our father, but a man who knew the meaning of “love.” Val Ross McQuivey, passed away almost four years to the day, of his beloved wife’s passing (Georgene Mageras McQuivey, November 4, 2017). The past four years have been a struggle for our father as his purpose in life was no longer with us. Val dedicated his life to taking care of his wife, children, and granddaughters—always giving selflessly of himself. Our hearts are broken for the loss of our father, but we are at peace as he has been reunited with his forever love.
Val was born February 12, 1937, in Salem, Utah and graduated from Cyprus High School in 1955. He was an amazing athlete and loved to hunt, fish, and camp. He was a Journeyman Electrician/Foreman at Kennecott Copper and had the fortune of retiring in his late 50’s. Following his retirement, he was able to spend time “tinkering” with golf carts at Copper Golf Club in Magna, Utah.
Val is preceded in death by his wife, Georgene McQuivey; parents, Ross S. and Venna D. McQuivey; brother, Kent L. (Dolores) McQuivey; sisters-in-law, Katie McQuivey and Elaine (Mageras) Smith; and brothers-in-law, Billy Rydalch and Gus Paulos. He leaves behind two children, Tony (Mandy) McQuivey and Melinda (Stephanie) McQuivey; two granddaughters, Alexandra Nixon and Madison McQuivey; four siblings, Karl McQuivey, Kay Harrison, Wayne (Camille) McQuivey, and Robyn (Bob) Thomas; two brothers-in-law, George (Barbara) Mageras and John (Sharlene) Mageras; sister-in-law, Barbara Paulos; and many nieces and nephews who brightened his life.
Due to health concerns, the family is having a private ceremony to lay Val to rest. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests either a donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or plant a tree in Val’s name. Special love and appreciation to his sister Kay Harrison; daughters-in-law Stephanie Nicastro-McQuivey and Mandy McQuivey; and future grandson Liam (Alexandra) Bradshaw for the time, care, and kindness they provided the past several years.
