David Kent Hatton

Our Beloved Husband, Father, Uncle, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, David Kent Hatton, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2020 surrounded by his loved ones.  David’s life began on October 28, 1929 born to David Wilford Hatton and Vera Ella Booth Hatton.

David graduated from Cyprus High School and then joined the Navy Reserves.  He was a Power Plant Operator for Kennecott Copper for 40 years where he was well respected.  He also served as the Business Manager for IBEW Local 1438 during that time.

He married his sweetheart, Maretta Isabell Ostergaard, in 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Dave and Maretta celebrated 73 years of marriage this December, 2020. They lived a life full of love and adventure spending their winters in Mexico and creating countless memories with family and friends.

David is best described by the sentiments of others:  I loved your Dad like he was my own; Dave was everyone’s friend; Your Dad was the most amazing man I had ever met; Dave was everyone’s friend; Your Dad was so generous and kind to everyone; I have more memories of your Dad than I can count.

Dad loved to garden and grew the best tomatoes around.  He loved reading Louis L’Amour books, watching old western movies, garage selling and supporting the Utah Utes. His grandchildren and great grandchildren will always remember Grandpa’s “candy drawer” and his amazing magic tricks earning him the name, “Magic Grandpa”.  Dad’s Fourth of July barbeques were the highlight of everyone’s year.

Dave was a wonderful person loved by so many.  He made people feel special because his kindness and love were genuine and everyone loved him for that.  He will be deeply missed.

David is survived by his spouse, Maretta Isabell Hatton, his son David W. (Viki) Hatton, son Ralph (Pam) Hatton, Brett Hatton and his daughter, Teddy Sheedy (Jim Frescholtz).  Grandpa has 12 grandchildren. Ben Hatton (Sharla), Shanna Hatton, Meghan (Kevin) Dorenbosch, Ashley (Curtis) Ash, Erin (Gentry) Julian, Caden Hatton, Isabell Hatton, Lily Hatton, Taylor (Joshua) Ames, Jack Hatton, Rachel Hatton and 18 great grandchildren.

David was preceded in death by his parents, David Wilford Hatton and Vera Ella Booth Hatton,  brother Ralph Boyd Hatton, sister Virginia Booth Hatton Ball Salkield, sister Iris Hatton Admundsen,  son Douglas Kent Hatton, grandson David Boyd (Bo) Hatton.

A celebration of David’s life will be held this summer after the Pandemic so we can all be together.  Date and time to be announced
