LaDawn Boman

1963 ~ 2021

LaDawn Alyce Read Boman passed away quietly in her home on February 18, 2021 after a hard-fought battle with many auto immune diseases.

She was born on January 29, 1963 in Granada Hills, California to Don Clifford Read and Patricia Alice Robinson Read.  She spent her earliest years in California but when she was about eleven years old, her family moved to Magna, Utah where she would spend the rest of her life.

LaDawn graduated from Cyprus High School and was a Pirate through and through!  On November 28, 1984 she married the love of her life, Michael Ted Boman.  They were sealed on October 20, 1990 in the Jordan River Temple.  She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served faithfully in many callings in the Magna Lake Ridge 9th Ward.  She had a passion for decorating and loved to transform the church gym into something magical!

LaDawn had come from a small family, having only one brother so she was overjoyed to become the mother of five sons and one daughter.  She was a loving, hands-on mom, helping the kids with their schoolwork, or just being there with a listening ear and her always open arms. LaDawn loved being with her family, supporting and cheering them on at sporting events, yelling “Man on Man” enthusiastically at their soccer games.  Later she would take that same enthusiasm as she cheered on her favorite soccer team, Real Salt Lake.  She was a Ute fan along the rest of the Bomans and spent many happy hours watching football, although she always wanted the underdog to win either way!  Although not necessarily a fan of camping (especially hating outhouses and sleeping in tents) she was a fan of being with her family, so she planned fun trips to Bear Lake or the Uinta mountains, making lasting memories for everyone.

She loved movies and a good rock concert and always remembers the Night Ranger concert in Park City as her “Best Hair Day” ever!  She was always talking about her childhood and the crazy trips with her parents through Nevada when they would stop to play the slots.

LaDawn was a hard worker and especially loved her job as a paraprofessional at Kearns High School.  She dearly loved the Special Needs kids and often said that she would have done that job for free.  She also worked for Vivint and loved being in the arena on Jazz game nights.  These were the things she missed the most when Covid-19 forced all of us into quarantine although in some ways, quarantining at home with family was the best time of her life.

She was talented with a crochet hook and there are too many people and babies to count who were lucky to wrap up in a blanket or wear a beanie made with her loving, arthritic hands.  She loved baking cookies at Christmas and cinnamon rolls for any reason at all!  Because of her autoimmune diseases, Covid was an ever-present fear so while she couldn’t work, she took advantage of the time; making incredible meals for Michael and the boys.

LaDawn was quiet, never looking for the spotlight or for recognition; she was happy to let Michael be the out-going one while she watched and listened – looking out for the broken people who needed a shoulder to cry on or a real friend.  Unfailingly kind, she saw only good in people and had a nurturing soul.  She was fond of looking for the “tender mercies” that she consistently saw all around her, even when she was in pain and struggling to breathe or move.  She didn’t complain.

Each of her children saw their mom as their best friend and if you asked which one was her favorite, she would say “whichever one needs me the most.” We will miss her open arms and hugs, her phone calls, her grace and incredible compassion.

LaDawn is survived by her husband, Michael Boman;  her sons, Brennan, Cameron (Hannah), Devan (McKenna), Parker; her daughter, Shanyn (Jordan); and grand-daughter, Eliana.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Theron Read; and a still-born son, Gentry.

A viewing for family and friends will be held on February 23rd from 10:00 AM to 11:45AM at the Lake Ridge 9th Ward at 7825 W Sharon Drive, Magna UT 84044 with the funeral service following at noon with Zoom.  Interment will be in the Valley View Memorial Park.
