Rosemarie Zito

January 8, 1926 — July 25, 2020

Rosemarie Santone Zito, 94

Beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully at home in Taylorsville, Utah on July 25, 2020.

Rosemarie was born in Denver, Colorado on the 8th of January, 1926 to Charles Santone and Helen Laguardia Santone. She had one older brother, Michael, and would be soon joined by two sisters, Carmella (Draxler) and Dolores (Rainaldi). She was a graduate of Cyprus High School class of 1944. She married John J. Zito on June 16, 1947 in Magna, Utah at Our Lady of  Lourdes Catholic Church. John and Rosemarie loved to dance together. They would take frequent trips to Wendover and they bowled at Delton Lanes for many years. Rosemarie worked for the Tooele Army Depot as an accounting clerk from 1944-1981. It was the perfect job for such a meticulous woman and she often spoke of her time there fondly.

On June 6, 1948 they had a son, David (Linda) J. Zito. She had a close relationship with David that continued right up until her death, where he was by her side.

She was a wonderful grandmother to Stephanie (Mark) Sherrell, Kimberly (David, div.) Perrine, Jennifer Zito Williams, and Melissa (Tommy) Grames. She would welcome her great grandchildren, Ashlee (Cailee Steele) Perrine, Ryan (Andraya) Perrine, Skylar (Ian) Briggs, Jesse (Kim) Sherrell, Christian Perrine, Justin (Kylee) Sherrell, Abigail Perrine, Jacob Grames, Maya Sherrell, and Lily Grames and great-great grandchildren Riley and Ellayna Perrine, into the world and care for them with the same love, kindness, and devotion she was known for.

She was a big fan of The Peanuts characters, especially Snoopy, and had collected every comic Charles Shulz created about them.

Rosemarie was everybody’s grandma. She was generous with both her time and gifts. She volunteered at St.Francis School in Kearns, Utah and loved to bake mini cheesecakes for the bake sales. She was always there when you needed a ride, or lunch money; it was impossible to leave her home with an empty stomach. Her family looked forward to the many Sunday dinners and big holiday gatherings prepared by her and grandpa. They were famous for their pizzelles and spaghetti and meatballs.

She was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and lived and loved as a follower of Jesus all of her days.

She was very fond of puzzles; especially crossword and jigsaw puzzles. In her later years, she lived for bingo and played every Friday night with many family and friends.

She loved dogs and owned many dachshunds during her lifetime including Sam, Auggie, and Dweezil.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother, sisters, husband, and daughter-in-law.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

No funeral service will be conducted due to concerns over Covid-19.

A graveside service will be held Friday, July 31st at 11 a.m. at Memorial Redwood Cemetery 6500 S Redwood Road, Taylorsville, UT 84123
