WINIFRED CAPITANO

1930 ~ 2021

Winifred (Winnie) Marion Capitano was born on June 20, 1930, in Newburgh, New York, to Florence and William Harris. She passed away peacefully in her home on June 18, 2021, surrounded by her family.

Winnie moved to Utah in 1965 with the love of her life, Anthony Capitano, whom she met and married in New York. After moving to Utah, she worked for Mountain States Bindery, retiring after 21 years.

After retirement and for many years that followed, Winnie was actively involved with the Kearns Senior Center and the local chapter of the Red Hat Society. She loved and was loved by her family, friends, and her dogs.

She enjoyed food, cooking, and helping others (one could always count on her to provide advice). She also liked to travel, taking regular Senior Tours bus trips to Wendover, Laughlin, and Jackpot.

Those who knew her best knew that she was a headstrong person, who was always a great self-advocate that didn’t take crap from anyone.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Capitano; parents, Florence and William; her siblings; daughters Terry Bird and Karla Bradshaw; her son-in-law, James Bird; stepson, Charlie Capitano; and many beloved friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynn (Marv) Graham; grandchildren, Toni (Robert) Netzler, Sherry (Chris) Riley, and Robin (Corey) Street; stepdaughter-in-law, Elvira Capitano; stepson Ritchie Capitano; and many great-grandchildren.

Winnie wanted her friends and family to know how much she loved and appreciated them, especially for the years Toni and Rob supported and cared for her. In addition, she wanted to extend a special thanks to Dr. Gordon Kimball for keeping her moving for so long.

The family would like to thank Summit Hospice, especially Chantelle, Annette, Wes, Dr. Joe, and Shirlene, for their compassion and expert care.

Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday June 25, 2021 at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 W. 2700 S, Magna, UT 84044, where a visitation will be one hour prior. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
